University of Ilorin in Kwara state will host the 3rd edition of the Nigerian Karate Championship on the 9th to the 13th of August 2019.
The All Nigerian Universities open is powered by the Nigerian University Karate association in collaboration with the Nigeria university games and the Karate Federation of Nigeria.
The events will feature registered athletes from all universities affiliated with NUGA. The competition will include Kata (form) display and Kumite (sparing) matches in both the men’s and women’s categories. Medals (Gold, Silver & Bronze) will be awarded to winners while NUKA hopes to support winning athletes with prizes based on the level of support gained from sponsors.
NUKA Chairman Mr. Oluwafemi Johnson says the association hopes to give opportunity to karate loving students while exposing others on campus to the sport “It is important that Nigerian Universities participate in this Championship as it’ll provide a good platform to foster sporting excellence, collegial cooperation thus enhancing peace building within the academic community”.
The Championship will also feature other activities like certification courses for coaches and trainers. The Certification Courses includes Coaches Certification for University Coaches and Referee Certification to update the level of technical officiating of regional officials
Beginners in Karate are encouraged to attend the event to have a first-hand experience of Karate Championship.
