Friday 23rd March 2018 was a remarkable day for Federation of Africa University Sports, as the AU Commission for Social affairs pledged support to the FASU programs. This was revealed by the Social Affairs Department Director, Amb. Olawale I. Maiyegun, Phd. when a delegation from FASU paid a maiden courtesy visit to the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in a bid to foster cooperation between the bodies. Amb. Maiyegun, in company of the Senior Sports Officer, Mr. Robert Auguste was convinced that the development of sports on the continent is key to the development of various sectors of the continent, hence the adoption of the AU year theme; Development of Sports and Sports for Development. He highlighted the available avenues of cooperation, in consideration of sport as a vehicle for the AU-2063 agenda. FASU was grateful for the goodwill of the AUC and are very positive that the student athletes will gain more from this budding relationship, starting with the forthcoming 9thFASU Games taking place at Mekelle University, in Ethiopia this July. This is the start of a long cooperation as each African institution makes effort to add a brick on the AU-2063 vision. FASU was represented by Prof. Jacob S. Nteere, Ms. Peninnah K. Aligawesa, Mr. Abbay K. Belahyun and Mr. Hannington Musoke.
