NUGA Hosted June Volunteer Webinar on Technology, Documentation and Digital Skills
The Nigerian University Games Association NUGA continued its 2026 Volunteer Network development series with a virtual webinar held on June 16, 2026, themed Volunteering and Beyond, Creating Opportunities Through Technology, Documentation and Digital Skills. The session formed part of NUGAs ongoing commitment to equipping students, volunteers, and young professionals with practical tools for personal growth, career development, and long-term success within and beyond university sports.
Moderated by Ogechi Stella Mmeka, Administrative Officer and Communications Strategist at NUGA, the session explored how volunteering can serve as a pathway to leadership, visibility, skill development, and professional opportunities. Participants were encouraged to view volunteering not simply as a support role, but as an avenue for learning, contribution, and career advancement.
The webinar also featured volunteer remarks from Banwo Oluwapelumi, a student volunteer from the University of Ibadan, who reflected on the value of service, growth, and active participation within the NUGA Volunteer Network.
Facilitating the session was Anthony Blessing Adegbile, Sport Manager, Software Engineer, Data Analyst, and youth development advocate. Drawing from his experience across sports management, technology, entrepreneurship, and volunteer leadership, he shared practical insights on how students can maximise opportunities that emerge through volunteering.
Throughout the session, participants were introduced to the concept of volunteering beyond assigned roles. Emphasis was placed on ownership, initiative, leadership, and creating value within any environment. Participants were encouraged to become active contributors, identify problems they can solve, and build a reputation based on reliability, consistency, and impact.
A major focus of the discussion centred on documentation. Adegbile highlighted the importance of recording experiences, achievements, projects, and contributions made through volunteering activities. He explained that photographs, reports, portfolios, recommendations, and professional profiles serve as evidence of growth and can significantly strengthen future academic and career opportunities.
The webinar further explored the growing role of technology in sports, events, and volunteer management. Discussions highlighted how digital platforms, registration systems, data management tools, communication technologies, and online collaboration platforms continue to transform the way sporting events and volunteer programmes are organised and delivered.
Participants also gained insight into digital skills relevant to today's students and young professionals. Areas discussed included project management tools, website development, data analysis, graphic design, content creation, artificial intelligence tools, digital communication, and online collaboration platforms. The session reinforced the importance of continuous learning and adapting to emerging technologies.
Beyond skill acquisition, participants were encouraged to strengthen their visibility and professional positioning by maintaining updated digital profiles, building professional networks, seeking recommendations, and consistently showcasing their experiences and accomplishments. The discussion highlighted how intentional visibility can create access to opportunities that extend beyond volunteering and university sports.
Interactive segments allowed participants to share their skills, interests, and experiences while reflecting on practical steps they could take to improve their personal and professional development journeys.
The webinar concluded with a call for participants to learn intentionally, document their journeys, develop relevant digital skills, create value, and remain open to opportunities that emerge through service and community engagement.
Overall, the session reinforced the NUGA Volunteer Networks role as a platform for learning, leadership development, innovation, and career readiness, while demonstrating how volunteering can become a foundation for future opportunities within sports and beyond.
