NUGA Council Meeting Rescheduled as Preparations for UNICAL 2026 Intensify
Preparations for the 28th NUGA Games in the University of Calabar continue to advance as the Nigerian University Games Association NUGA has officially announced new dates for its Council Meeting following the postponement of the earlier meeting scheduled for April. According to the notice issued by the Office of the Secretary General, the meeting will now hold from June 10 to 11, 2026, at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Jos, with delegates expected to arrive on June 9 and depart on June 12.
The decision to reschedule the meeting followed extensive consultations with the management of the University of Jos regarding the security situation in Plateau State. NUGA confirmed that assurances have been received from the host institution indicating that Jos is now safe for participants and stakeholders attending the meeting. While alternative venue options were considered during the consultation process, the Executive Committee resolved to proceed with the University of Jos in order to maintain planning timelines and ensure continuity in preparations for upcoming NUGA activities.
The Council Meeting remains one of the most important gatherings within the NUGA calendar, bringing together Chairmen, Directors of Sports, university representatives, and key stakeholders from across member institutions. Discussions are expected to focus on university sports administration, preparations for the 28th NUGA Games scheduled for November 2026 in Calabar, and the alignment of programmes and activities across the Nigerian university sports ecosystem.
Beyond administrative deliberations, the meeting provides an opportunity for collaboration, strategic planning, and collective decision making among stakeholders responsible for driving university sports development in Nigeria.
