FASU Student Committee Roundtable Webinar to Spotlight Leadership, Careers and the Future of University Sports in Africa

The Federation of African University Sports FASU Student Committee will host a two day virtual Roundtable on June 9 and 10, 2026, bringing together student athletes, student leaders, sports administrators, and stakeholders from across Africa.

The programme is themed Student Athletes and Beyond, Leadership, Opportunities and the Future of University Sports in Africa and is designed to explore the realities of student athlete life, leadership development, career opportunities, and the future of university sports on the continent. The sessions will run daily from 3.00 PM East Africa Time and form part of FASU's commitment to educating, empowering, and elevating students within the African university sports movement.

Day One, scheduled for Tuesday, June 9, will focus on The Student Athlete Experience and will be moderated by Ms. Mirriam Libati. The programme will begin with welcome remarks by Mr. Aupal Emmanuel at 3.00 PM, followed by a keynote address at 3.05 PM. The first session, facilitated by Ms. Mutinta Habeene, will examine the challenges facing student athletes in African university sports and practical approaches to addressing them. Following a short break, Ms. Husina Kobugabe will lead discussions on balancing academics, sports performance, and personal development. The day will conclude with an open panel discussion and question and answer session examining whether African university sports systems are doing enough to support student athletes beyond competition. Panelists include Ms. Christiana Owomuhangi, Mr. Amoo Emmanuel, Mr. Mouje Tjazeri, Mr. Alberto Zemba, and Mr. Herve Orly. Closing remarks will be delivered by Mr. Mohamed Noureldein.

Day Two, scheduled for Wednesday, June 10, will shift attention to Leadership and Careers in African University Sports under the moderation of Ms. Halima Sadia Bakkar. Welcome remarks will be delivered by Ms. Diana Barasa at 3.00 PM, followed by a keynote address. The first session will feature Mr. Adebayo Olatunde discussing student leadership in university sports and opportunities beyond being an athlete. This will be followed by a presentation from Ms. Chidiebere Ezeani on career pathways for impact in sports, including administration, media, and management. The final discussion of the day will explore how student leaders and student athletes can prepare for meaningful careers beyond competition, particularly within sports administration, governance, and management.

The Roundtable will conclude with contributions from an experienced panel comprising Mr. Issa Mohamed Salum, Mr. Henry Nsekuye, Mr. Victor Olabisi, and Mr. Mouad Benouzekri, before closing remarks are delivered by Ms. Priscilla Dadzie. Through expert presentations, panel discussions, and interactive engagement, the FASU Student Committee Roundtable aims to provide students across Africa with practical insights, leadership perspectives, and professional development opportunities that will help shape the next generation of university sports leaders.
