At the University of Uyo UNIUYO, the second season of the Inter University Scrabble Series concluded successfully with Team UNIUYO emerging victorious after a competitive contest featuring the Federal University of Technology Owerri FUTO. At the University of Ilorin UNILORIN, a groundbreaking step has been taken in athlete welfare and student development through the establishment of the UniIlorin Sport Medical Team, the first student led sport medicine team within a Nigerian university. Created under the action plan of the 2025 to 2026 FISU Student Ambassador and the University of Ilorin Student Union, the initiative provides students from medicine, physiotherapy, nursing, and related disciplines with practical experience in live sporting environments. Already deployed at the ongoing University of Ilorin League, members provide medical and physiotherapy support to athletes, helping to bridge the gap between classroom learning and professional practice while strengthening athlete welfare on campus.
At Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University ATBU, Bauchi, the university community is celebrating a major achievement following the national team call up of Habila Simeon from the Faculty of Engineering to Nigerias Under 20 football team, the Flying Eagles, for the WAFU B U20 Championship. The selection represents a significant milestone in his football journey and reflects the role of university sports in identifying, nurturing, and promoting talented athletes to higher levels of competition. University handball competition in Southwest Nigeria delivered another exciting chapter as universities gathered from May 20 to 22 for the Southwest Handball Championship 2026. Wearing jersey number 10, he scored two goals, including a remarkable direct free kick, to inspire his faculty's performance.
