UNIPORT Hosted Chief Ollors Football Leagues Grand Finale
The University of Port Harcourt UNIPORT, through the Office of the Students Union Government SUG Director of Sports, successfully concluded the Champions League and Conference League 2.0, marking a significant milestone in campus football development. Organised under the leadership of Comr. Bolarinwa David Holla, the tournament was designed to promote inclusiveness and provide students across faculties and departments with equal opportunities to participate in competitive football.
The competition featured two distinct formats, with the Conference League adopting a two leg knockout system, while the Champions League followed a group stage format, ensuring a balanced and competitive structure throughout the tournament. Both formats delivered thrilling encounters and showcased the depth of football talent within the university.
The grand finals were held on March 20, 2026, at the Uniport Stadium, drawing strong participation and support from the university community. The event was powered by Chief Hon. Obarilomate Ollor JP, Executive Chairman of Eleme LGA, alongside support from the University Sports Directorate, further reinforcing institutional backing for student sports.
In the Conference League, Kiz Jnr emerged champions after an impressive campaign, also dominating individual awards including Best Player, Highest Goal Scorer, and Best Goalkeeper. In the Champions League, Hungry Lions secured victory, with their players earning Best Player and Highest Goal Scorer, while MCB Lite claimed the Best Goalkeeper award.
The tournament was widely regarded as one of the most successful football competitions in the universityâs history, reflecting strong organisation, high level competition, and enthusiastic student engagement. Notably, the concept of the competition was originally introduced by Comr. Bolarinwa David Holla during his tenure as General Coordinator and has since evolved into a flagship sporting initiative under his leadership as SUG Director of Sports.
With the success of the 2.0 edition, attention now turns to the upcoming Uniport Super Cup, where both league champions are set to face off in a highly anticipated clash to determine the ultimate team on campus.
